Thursday’s World Cup Round of 32 action started with Spain soaring into the final 16 with a win over Austria and Switzerland having little trouble with Algeria. Then came Portugal vs. Croatia and, well, plenty’s been written about that.
Friday, the final day of the Round of 32, sees Lionel Messi and Argentina looking to end Cabo Verde’s Cinderella run in what should be a virtual Albiceleste home game at Hard Rock Stadium. Bookending that one is Mo Salah and Egypt against Australia in Arlington and the nightcap in Vancouver between Colombia and Ghana.

How Australia got to the Round of 32
Australia, second place in Group F, doubled up Tรผrkiye 2-0 to open the group stage before a 2-0 loss to the United States. Despite five shots on target against Paraguay, the two teams walked off the pitch without a goal between them.
How Egypt got to the Round of 32
Egypt trailed Belgium 1-0 until the 66th minute, when a Mohamed Hany goal tied things up at 1-1. But it got on the winning side in a 3-1 win over New Zealand as Salah was one of three different players to find the scoreboard.

How Argentina got to the Round of 32
As it turns out, that Lionel Messi guy still has it. Argentina outscored its opponents 8-1 in the group stage (3-0 vs. Algeria, 2-0 vs. Austria, and 3-1 vs. Jordan). Six of those goals were from Messi.
How Cabo Verde got to the Round of 32
Cabo Verde was the talk of the World Cup after Vozinha’s seven saves in a 0-0 draw against Spain, which it followed up with two more draws: 2-2 against Uruguay and 0-0 against Saudi Arabia. But it ended up with one of the eight third-place slots and, in turn, a matchup with the defending champion.

How Colombia got to the Round of 32
Colombia was tied 1-1 with Uzbekistan after the 60th minute, but Luis Diaz and Jaminton Campaz turned things around on the way to a 3-1 win. It then used a 76th-minute goal from Daniel Muรฑoz to beat DR Congo 1-0 before playing Portugal to a goalless draw and securing the top spot in Group K.
How Ghana got to the Round of 32
Ghana, the third-place team from Group L, needed some last-minute drama against Panama as Caleb Yirkeni’s goal in 90+5′ was the only goal in a 1-0 win. That was its last win as it drew England 0-0 and fell to Croatia 2-1 as Nikola Vlaลกiฤ snapped a 1-1 tie in the 83rd minute.
