As Atlanta United fans await news of the first new signing under Tata Martino, we have an update on Noah Cobb’s loan: the club on Tuesday announced that the Colorado Rapids have exercised their transfer option for the Homegrown centerback. Tom Bogert was the first to report the news.

This decision was made in close coordination with their search for a new manager and suggests an alignment with the vision of where the club could go. Colorado’s next manager will be getting an exciting and athletic young centerback who is rapidly gaining recognition through USYNT call-ups. Cobb could quickly become a regular starter in a centerback pair or trio, and could garner attention from clubs abroad if he continues to show the quality that had many in Atlanta wishing that he could return for 2026.

As far as what Atlanta United gets in exchange for its promising Homegrown defender? It receives $275,000 in 2026 GAM and $250,000 in 2027 GAM, plus an extra $250,000 if Cobb meets incentives. The cash is desperately needed as the club seeks to transform a disappointing and high-priced roster from 2025 into one that can return to winning form under Tata Martino.

glad we are getting money than $500K. should be very helpful

gravity shack

campbell
morales
cobb
bauer

i’m sure i’m missing one or two more of the good young cbs we got rid of, but wow.

gravity shack

yeah…forgot about him

schyoo

To be fair, Bauer wasn’t a homegrown and he wasn’t able to earn playing time in Atlanta

Clueless Joe

Figured we’d lose Cobb. Looks like we had to loan out a young player with value in order to help fix our cap situation due to some bad signings. The $500k in GAM will help.

Best of luck to him, i’m sure he’ll continue doing great things. $500 in GAM, however, is nothing to sneeze at and like mentioned, is desperately needed so to get that out of a homegrown is pretty damn good business. Plus Cobb I believe will get paid better there too.

Mia San Atl

I’m worried we’ll doing something silly with it like get a couple international slots.

SD2ATL

Considering Tata is all about his Argentinian players, I wouldn’t doubt it. sounds like the CB corp is already set and/or in motion to be set so now it’s about freeing up more money to get the right players in to play his style of football. I truly don’t think ELL, Thiare & Cayman are our main CF’s by the way…ELL isn’t going anywhere unless someone picks him up but there’s a chance Thiare/Cayman get traded/transferred out.

Southern_Azzurri

Was pretty confident this would happen, but was still holding out hope. So disappointing.
