Day 8 of the 2026 World Cup kicks off the second round of group stage matches as Groups A and B are both in action.
The day starts with Czechia vs. South Africa in Atlanta at noon. (Here’s a preview of that one). Depending on how that one goes, either Mexico or South Korea, who finish off the day in Guadalajara in a 9 p.m. ET kickoff, could claim a spot in the knockout stage with a win. A South Africa loss to Czechia means South Korea can punch its ticket to the Round of 32 with a win over Mexico. A Czechia loss and a Mexico win confirms a knockout round spot for El Tri with one match to spare.
Later in the day, Group B features Switzerland vs. Bosnia at SoFi Stadium and Canada vs. Qatar in Vancouver. There’s literally nothing to separate Switzerland and Bosnia as they drew their opening matches against Canada and Qatar, respectively, by identical 1-1 scorelines. That said, the Swiss result came in crushing fashion as they conceded an equalizing own goal in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time. Canada, which pulled level with Bosnia through a Cyle Larin goal in the 78th minute, will have Alphonso Davies available for selection against Qatar as he could see his first action with the national team in 16 months. Of course, given that all four teams are on one point, no one can secure a knockout stage appearance or be eliminated.
