Noah Cobb’s standing continues to rise in the American youth national team ranks, as the 18-year-old center back was named to Michael Nsien’s 21-man United States roster for the CONCACAF U-20 Championship. The U.S. opens the tournament against Jamaica on July 19.
Cobb has emerged as a key defensive option for Atlanta United in 2024, making 17 appearances (14 starts) with the first team across all competitions. The 18-year-old has found himself with increased playing time due to Stian Gregersen’s injury concerns and Luis Abram’s international duty, making significant strides during the season.
Cobb isn’t the only Atlanta United player headed to the U-20 Championship: 17-year-old Ashton Gordon will be part of the Reggae Boyz’ tournament roster as he and Cobb could be on the pitch together next Friday. Gordon has made six appearances (three starts) with ATL UTD 2 and started against the Charlotte Independence and Charleston Battery in the U.S. Open Cup.
And Julian Bretous, a U-17 player in Atlanta’s academy, is part of Haiti’s preliminary roster of 26 players. Twenty will be selected for the tournament.
Also, Academy and ATL UTD 2 alum Jonantan Villal, now with Atético San Luis, was named to Mexico’s squad.

With all of these players getting called up to national teams…we should be better than we are. We need a coach that can make it all mesh.
Good for them. Always good to see our young players get these kinds of opportunities.
it is an amazing opportunity for all the Atlanta players to gain some important international experience
It’s hard to say if Williams or Cobb has been the bright spot of the season.
Everyone was pretty high on Williams for a while there and Cobb has done very well for a teenager playing as much as he has.
I’m still high on Williams, for 500k he’s been one of the best CBs in the league. Not perfect, but pretty dang close
I’m glad we’ve got him under contract next year. This centerback group may be the only stable part of our roster this winter. Gregersen, Williams, Cobb, Morales, and Edwards are a great positional group to build on with Nigel Prince, Kaidan Moore, Braden Dunham (LCB), and Ethan Degny in the developmental pipeline.
