Ten-man Atlanta United fall at CF Montreal, 1-0

Atlanta United dropped their fourth straight match across all competitions on Saturday night, finishing with 10 men in a 1-0 loss to CF Montreal.

It wasn’t the most exciting first half for either side as Montreal favored a more possession-based style while Atlanta failed to muster anything from an attacking standpoint. In the 34th minute, though, Brad Guzan was called upon to make a nice save on a near-post effort from Raheem Edwards. Josef Martinez also had a free-kick attempt moments later that didn’t miss by all that much.

Montreal pulled ahead in the 50th minute, though, as Ruan got his head to a well-delivered Raheem Edwards ball to make it 1-0 in favor of the hosts.

Things went from bad to worse in the 55th minute, as Stian Gregersen was shown a questionable second yellow card by Ted Unkel.

To Atlanta’s credit, they had a half-chance or two as they looked to get even, while Guzan deserves a nod as well as he made several terrific saves as he tried to keep Atlanta in it. Still, it’s another loss as they host NYCFC on Wednesday without Gregersen in the lineup, and yet another frustrating night for a team without a head coach and without Designated Players at two critical positions.

Anyone have an in with the capos/supporters groups? I’d vote for chanting Josef Martinez for the entire Montreal game in October.

I miss caring about this team. Can anybody give a reason to care, even though they are boring, bad and will cost 6+% more to attend games next year? The FO comment about expecting to lose 10% of season ticket holders, but raising prices anyway, really was a bad look. Also, Boca is still here, breaking things.

I can’t give you a reason, but I do want to talk about the increase.

I hadn’t heard this (not a STH myself) so I did find some info on it. The front office technically said that they expect to have a 90% retention rate. I have no idea if that is good, bad or in the middle. I’m an IT guy and I had a job with a company where we did talk internally about retention rates. I can tell you that some people will leave if you go up like !% in cost and others won’t leave no matter how bad it gets. So the question here is whether 90% retention is good or bad and I don’t know.

Garth did say that his goal when coming here was to cut spending, so STHs have a valid question to ask how come they are going to pay more when the team is spending less. If any of you are STHs, you should ask your ticket rep this question and put them on the spot. Again from work, I had a job once where customers would ask us why we were raising rates when we had actually gotten rid of our US based help desk to save money yet the customers weren’t seeing any savings and were expected to pay more for less (no US based help desk). So STHs, you guys need to ask why you are expected to pay more for worse results.

I seriously question pretty much everything this org does now. I’m not seeing any light or even the end of the long dark tunnel. For example the USOC match on Tuesday was clearly sacrificed for last night’s match, yet we didn’t score a goal last night so that didn’t work. Can’t say I think the odds are great that Leagues Cup is going to be anything more than a rinse and repeat from last year’s result.
