For only the third time ever, Atlanta United will travel to Commerce City, Colorado to face the Rapids tonight in a quest to find their first away win of the season- with only nine matches left to go.
The Five Stripes have a 3-1-0 record against the Colorado Rapids all time, but right now are only one of two MLS sides without a victory on the road. Finding one at high altitude won’t be easy, given the only Atlanta squad to win at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park was the MLS Cup winning 2018 one. Then again, Miggy’s brace was what led them to a 3-0 victory, while Brad Guzan kept a clean sheet with three saves. One can dream. Atlanta’s last trip to Colorado ended 3-0 to the hosts, though. Expect goals.
Going from one outgoing defender in Montreal to another in Colorado, Atlanta will now go up against another old friend with Noah Cobb in the backline. Cobb went the full ninety minutes in the Rapids’ 2-1 win in Minnesota last weekend, locking his spot with his new backline.
Cobb and the rest of the Rapids defense will be tasked up against an in-form Alexey Miranchuk, who has logged five goals in his last seven matches in all competitions. Still, a lately decided 1-1 draw against CF Montreal didn’t do much to inspire confidence in Atlanta’s expensive attack finding form down the stretch. Will a breath of fresh Rocky Mountain air revive anything that’s left in this team?

The curse continues. The โown saveโ by Miranchuk epitomizes this team.
The bumbling CB play continues but itโs not easy to insert new CBs and have them gel immediately at any level.
Guz, man oh man. Brutal match for him.
Gotta start Alzate from now on.
And poor ol Lennon is a shell of himself from a couple years ago. Especially on the left side.
Good grief – someone should be fired over the summer transfer window. Isn’t our organization run by ex defenders? To not be able to get your defense right is…. indefensible (pun intended).
Was at the stadium and we lost to a well drilled side that played free flowing football like a team and like they actually cared. We had whatever that was in the 75th minute and the only urgency we showed was the players racing to get back to the locker room after the game.
Zero reaction or articles from Tyler, Henry, Jackson or Sydney kinda tells you all you need to know about this game and season.
If the guys trying to make money on this team site can’t be bothered, why should the fans care?
Speaks volumes. Thereโs just nothing left to say. The roster is a mess, the defense is a shambles, and if anything the summer moves have made us worse, not better.
I couldn’t catch the first half of the game, but I was home in time to catch the second half if I hadn’t forgotten about it. I’m a Founding Member since they announced we were getting a team back in 2014(?) and a STH since the first match at Bobby Dodd. Part of me feels bad, like “have I become a fair weather fan?” But this season has been so demoralizing after so much hope at the start and 4+ years of rebuilding. ๐
It is insane that Brad Guzan is still starting. He was done two years ago and clearly isnโt coming back (right? RIGHT?), but weโre determined to lose old in goal until he is no longer on the team.
Why is Hibbert not playing? As much as I like Guz. We need to move on. There is nothing to loose. Whatโs wrong with the coach? Delaying the inevitable.
Plus Guz laid an egg tonight. Let Hubert start the next few and see if he can do something. Guz deserves to start the last home match and a proper send off but after tonight he needs to see some bench time.
Deila has to go.
Next home match we should all show up with paper bags over our faces with holes cut out for our eyes. This is bloody embarrassing
Loaning Cobb to bring in Berracol should be a termination decision.
Was thinking the exact same thing.
Loosing to bloody Armas. Itโs like 2018 NYRB (except the playoffs of cause).
Mihaj is fine. Heโs not perfect, but heโll be ok I think. Still not convinced Berrocal is an upgrade over Abram. So far Iโm liking Alzateโs game, he seems to have a bit of that Nagbe solidity in tight space. Not completely, but more than many of our other midfielders, and a good understanding of where he needs to go to provide outlets for our cbโs.
Agreed. But I still donโt understand why we didnโt just start Cobb?
This team is awful. Please continue the purge. Get rid of the midfield next. Only one player should remain in that midfield (miranchuk) and a maybe (miggy). Reilly experiment is a disaster. Guzan is past his prime. Manager should be canned. This is getting worse by the game. Very few positives. Thank God for Miranchuk.
Never watched such garbage. We canโt score that????
Just a bunch of chickens in front of the goal. To much fear. Lack of composure. The want to be too perfectโฆ perfect is the enemy of goodโฆ so nothing happens
This is bloody none sense. These guys do not deserve the badge.
Why do I put myself through this.
We watch every week, and we have no idea why
My wife asks me the same thing
Because your not a plastic fan. You’re a true fan and will always be no matter what. When this crap is all said and done and we get back to the top of MLS, you’ll not only have the satisfaction of your team winning, but also that you stayed thru thick and thin. Sorry for my rant. I’m quite tired.
What a collapse
Berrocal seems to love to foul ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ
Idiotic penalty. Berrocal not impressing. Neither is the other new CB, really. Donโt see at all how theyโre an improvement over Morales and Cobb.
At least Gregersen showed up?
Berrocal not painting himself well so far
58th min and already playing for the draw.
wow, going to a 3 CB formation, can’t remember the last time we played 3 CBs with actual 3 CBs
Alright. Predicted result: win, draw, or another road L?
Change to make for the second?
Hope to see Alzate.
Same
LMAO they’re booing Lennon every time he gets a touch.
So was I. Heโs abysmal.
Miggy sails another one. As predictable as the sunrise.
He can be the falcons backup kicker
Miranchuk is the man as well as our only hope
The only defense that man played tonight was against his own team.
Good gosh that left foot of his is magic
Thanks Alexei and your magic left foot
Our defense is a crime against soccer. Clueless, lethargic putrescence.
Sad โฆ just sad
That road win ainโt happening tonight now is it?
It really is mind boggling that this team shows no improvement.
This looks like a soccer specific stadium – is it just me or does the field look really small on tv?
Stadium was MLS 1.0 It’s WAAAYY outside of Denver.
Latte as the player to watch ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ
Basically almost the same line up. We not winning again
Saw a few others that also made the trip out here from Atlanta, feeling confidently hopeful
AJC Doug stated that Noah Cobb canโt play tonight as per terms of the loan agreement – though it would have seemed fitting for him to get the match winner if he was playing
I guess that makes sense. I think there was an agreement like that when we loaned out Andrew Gutman to the Red Bulls a while back.
Heโs starting tonight
I only started watching last 10 minutes. Did we ever get an explanation for why Cobb is playing against us?
The apathy is realโฆ
