Group A advancement scenarios

Mexico has already won Group A, so it will be in a position to possibly rest some starters against Czechia at the Azteca. Meanwhile, Czechia needs to not only beat Mexico and have South Africa beat South Korea, but also maintain its slim goal differential edge over South Africa (+1) or finish ahead on any subsequent tiebreaker to finish second.

South Africa can claim second in the group with a win over South Korea and at least a draw for Czechia against Mexico. If Czechia wins, tiebreakers come into play.

South Korea needs at least a point against South Africa for second.

Group B advancement scenarios

Canada’s path to winning Group B is as simple as a win or a draw against the Swiss. A loss, coupled with dropped points for Bosnia and Herzegovina against Qatar, means Canada finishes second. A Bosnia win and a Canada loss puts both teams level on points, but a superior goal differential should stand up and put Canada in second.

Switzerland wins the group if it beats Canada; a draw means it’ll finish second. It should be in as a second-place team if it loses to Canada and if Qatar beats Bosnia and Herzegovina, given what should be a substantial advantage in goal differential.

Bosnia needs a win over Qatar and Canada to lose to Switzerland to have a chance at second, but it will need to overturn a wide goal differential. If Bosnia and Qatar draw, Bosnia will have to wait for other results to see if it qualifies as a third-place team.

Qatar must beat Bosnia and have Canada beat Switzerland to have any shot at the Round of 32, but face a big disadvantage in goal differential.

Group C advancement scenarios

If Scotland beats Brazil and Morocco drops points against Haiti, Scotland wins Group C. A Scotland win and a Morocco win see Scotland through as a second-place team, while a draw against Brazil would mean a potential third-place spot.

Brazil wins the group if it beats Scotland and maintains its edge in goal differential over Morocco (+2), and will finish second with a draw and dropped points for Haiti against Morocco. Even if Brazil lose, it can finish second if it maintains that goal-differential edge.

Morocco wins Group C if it beats Haiti and Brazil drops points against Scotland; a Morocco win and a Brazil win will put both teams on seven points, meaning Morocco will need to erase its goal differential deficit to win the group in that scenario. A win for Scotland and a draw for Morocco puts Morocco in second.

Haiti has already been eliminated, so its role will be one of a spoiler while seeking its first-ever win in the tournament.
